Port Augusta, WA, Australia
Our “Free Camp” was a huge success, we were all warm enough, we had power, water (some of us had toilets and showers) and we weren’t killed by a passing serial killer!
The Coughlins were up and about very early, I couldn’t understand their rush until Patrick came knocking to advise us that ” we’ll just leave a little bit early and stop at the amenities down the road…” With no shower or toilet, they needed to avail themselves of the nearest public amenities, but I think that Penong was close to an hour, so I hope nobody was desperate…..
Nevertheless, a 7:45 departure saw us on the road and heading for our one and only tourist stop for the day, Pildappa Rock. This is reputed to be much like Wave Rock and as we’d missed going into Hyden to see Wave Rock, we were all looking forward to this little detour. A much better towing day today, in fact, we recorded mileage of around 16.5 Litres per 100 Km’s, some of our best for the trip.
After picking up Merryn & Patrick from the toilet stop we continued on, arriving at Pildappa Rock in time to enjoy lunch admiring this weird spectacle. A bit like Wave Rock, Pildappa appears to be not so well known and a lot closer to the highway. We scrambled around here for quite a while!
With another couple of hundred K’s to Kimba, our planned destination, we were back on the road again shortly after lunch. Kimba came up too early so we’ve pushed on, checking out some free camps which were all too close to the road for our liking and have ended up here in Port Augusta.
What luck….George & Janene Littlechild are in the same park, what a coincidence we thought they were well ahead of us by now. We’ve spent the past couple of hours catching up on their doings. It’s been great to meet up again before we all head home tomorrow. Safe travelling!
